Brooches, Closures & Implements
Penannular brooches and chatelaines are found throughout the Norse and Celtic world. Chatelaines hung from a woman's apron strap to carry her selection of implements used in her daily chores. Small shears, needle cases, keys and ear spoons were common among these small tools. Penannular brooches came in a variety of sizes - from the very large that held heavy cloaks to ones such as these designed to hold a shawl or scarf in place.
